New Music: Raheem Devaughn “I Don’t Care”
I’m a total Raheem Devaughn groupie. I can admit it! Check out Raheem’s leaked track “I Don’t Care,” a mid-tempo groove from his third album, The Love and War Masterpiece.

I hadn’t heard of Mateo until I saw him perform at UCLA Jazz Fest this past spring. His velvety voice dominated the audience’s attention…something hard for an unknown artist to do, especially in a place like Los Angeles where “who you are” usually trumps your talent. Mateo’s pretty mean on the 88 keys too, he’s multi-talented. “Get to know” Mateo, he’s worth the listen.

The video for “I Wanna Know” is finally here. I love this song, its one of my favorites from Foreign Exchange. Check it.

Honey Soul’s post today put me up on game — hip hop turned 36 years old on August 11th! Hip-hop, you’re a grown ass adult now…
Hip hop has it good and bad qualities, but that doesn’t change the fact that it has had an integral impact on who I am. Hip hop’s influence on me is like being born in the ghetto. No matter where I go and how much I evolve, it’s still a fiber of my core. And not just me, hip hop has raised millions of kids around the world over the past three and a half decades. If you were born after the late 1970s, you don’t really know a world without hip hop.
So break out your fly sneaks, custom nameplate, your pimp cup and your shades, and light one in the air for hip hop!
HIP HOP, HIP HOP, HIP HOP!!
Ok so, I’m a bit of a Soulja Boy hater, but I can’t deny the impact he’s had on the current hip hop youth culture. So please don’t be alarmed if you see his name cross my page, aight?
I saw this video on MTV Jams, and I thought it was a really cute song. I like the sound, it reminds me of the So So Def Bass All Stars sound of the mid 90s, with a bit of soulful house. Vistoso Bosses are adorable, talented, and they’re not naked. Positive role models for the lil’ mamas out there.
Amerie’s new video is dope, I love the cinematography and imagery. I’ve always wondered how come Amerie hasn’t hit the mainstream super hard like other R&B and Pop singers. She has the look, the style, and good energy. Could be that it isn’t her time yet? Or who knows, maybe she doesn’t want to be a megastar. Some people carve a niche for themselves and are happy with that. Maybe she wants to be recognized for her music rather than being shoved down people’s throats (Rhianna, anyone?). If Def Jam really wanted to sell Amerie to a mainstream audience, they would do it. That said, I admire Amerie’s consistency, because she continues to put out good music and doesn’t rely on gimmicks to appeal to her audience. She has a formula and she sticks to it. Work it, Amerie!
One of the best songs about hip hop, imo. Brought to you by an OG b-girl, Ms. Erykah Badu.
Rest in peace MJ! Though troubled while you were here, you inspired BILLIONS with your music, dance, and style. I know you’re smiling down on us Mike!
I peeped Dwele’s Mc Cafe commercial for Mc Donald’s over at Honey Soul Music and I thought damn, this is the most soulful, playeristic Mc Donald’s commercial I’ve ever seen lol. Mickey D’s goes hard on targeting ads to the black community…but at least its not tacky. I can appreciate it more when the depiction is classy. Check it:
Foreign Exchange is one of my new favorite acts. Consisting of Phonte from Little Brother and producer Nicolay, Foreign Exchange’s style is neo-soul hip hop smooth and sexy. And Darien Brockington’s sexy self. That voice is too much for me. I can’t take it!
