Oh how I wish I was going to see Dwele tomorrow! He’s my favorite soul/R&B artist above all others. I won’t make it, but if you’re in town you should check him out. Enjoy it for me!
Show starts @ 8p…tix are $25. Grab them at Ticketmaster or at the door!
When I posted the lineup for Coachella 2010 back in January, the weekend of April 16 seemed so far off. Now, it’s about a week away, and it’s time to think about what to wear. Fashion is a huge part of the experience, music festivals inspire the need to express your style and individuality. I love people watching at shows and festivals, especially in a place like LA, where image rules.
Check out these must-haves from a couple of awesome independent designers, Los Angeles based Kid Dangerous and New York based David & Young. The black and white fedora style sunhat is super cute. I already copped my “LA Don’t <3 U” tee for all the haters out there! Holla at me if you see me in the streets!
I had no idea who Kooley High was until I saw them perform at The Spliff last December. I met DJ Ill Digitz before the group began their set, who told me they came to Los Angeles from Raleigh, North Carolina just to perform at the show. I was impressed that they came to LA for the The Spliff, it’s usually a regional show. The Spliff is getting big!
When Kooley High hit the stage, I was really impressed. Their style is dope..a little bit backpack, a little bit country. Their beats are dope, their rhymes are slick, and they have a lady MC. I’m sold!
Ill Digitz passed me a couple of Kooley High CDs. Usually I barely pay attention when unknown artists pass me CDs, but I stashed them in my purse anyway.
I took a listen to their CDs, something I never do. And you know what? I listened to them in their entirety. More than once. Kooley High is one of those acts where if you take a chance on them, you’ll be glad you did it.
I’m very excited that music festival season is returning. There’s nothing like watching dope artists perform under the hot California sun.
Guerilla Union’s Paid Dues festival goes down on Saturday, April 3rd in San Bernadino, CA. The lineup includes MURS, Ice Cube, Raekwon, Jay Electronica, Dogg Pound, and will be hosted by my good friend DJ Val the Vandle. Go ‘head Val!
I’m excited to see Ice Cube and Dogg Pound. Those are two of my favorite hip hop acts of all time. If Snoop were going to be there, I will have died and gone to hip hop heaven.

L-Boogie has resurfaced! Check out this video of Lauryn Hill performing “That Thing (Doo Wop) at the Raggamuffin Festival in New Zealand. The video looks like it was taken from someone’s phone, but the quality isn’t that bad. She’s crazy as all get out, but she still got it! I hope this gets the momentum going for a US tour…and maybe an album? *Crossing my fingers*
The lineup for Coachella 2010 has been revealed! Everyone’s favorite rapper Jay-Z is headlining the show this year. De La Soul will also be gracing the stage. Looks like an awesome balance of hip hop, alternative, funk and electronica. I hope to make it to Coachella this year. Check the lineup!
I know its last minute, but if you’re in LA tonight and want to see Fe Fe Dobson, check her out at the Hard Rock Cafe @ Universal City Walk. Show starts @ 8pm, tickets are only $10, 21+!
In Atlanta this weekend? Hit up the A3C Hip Hop Festival featuring live performances by Little Brother, Wale, The Clipse, B.O.B, and others.
In addition to performances, look forward to industry panels, art shows, and other events. According to the official schedule, the festival will take place at multiple venues in the East Atlanta Village area Oct 1-3, and all access passes are available. This should be a dope event, so check it out!
If you live in LA or will be here this weekend, check out De La Soul this Friday at the Key Club! I would go to the show but my money is mad funny. I need a hookup on tickets, I’m a blogger for Chrissakes. Meh. I don’t feel too bad since I saw De La at UCLA Jazz Fest Memorial Day weekend, and they fucking rocked it. They still got it. People, THIS is hip hop. You. Must. Learn.
