New Music Tuesday: Wale “Attention Deficit”
Wale’s major label debut Attention Deficit finally hit the streets…and it was well worth the wait. The album cuts are far better than the radio singles. “Mama Told Me,” a soulful, go-go inspired track speaks of the grind involved in making it to the top. In “Shades,” Wale critiques the light-skin/dark-skin division in the black community, and learns to accept and appreciate his beautiful dark skin. Attention Deficit goes deep, it’s not a superficial debut album about rims, hoes, and ice. Nor is it an attempt at faux-hipster hip hop. Wale gives authentic, soulful, thoughtful lyricism.
This album is so good, I would actually purchase it. I mean like physically go to the store and buy the CD, not download digital files from itunes or Imeem. It’s seriously that good.
