Get your Cinco De Mayo on…Margaritas, Baby!

I’m not Mexican, but I love Cinco de Mayo. When I was a kid we used to have school assemblies, and the girls would dress up in pretty peasant tops and huge red, green, and white skirts and dance around, swinging their skirts.
I understand that Cinco de Mayo has a cultural significance, and should be respected as such. That said…
Now that I’m grown up, Cinco de Mayo remains close to my heart for one reason…margaritas! Any excuse to party, word. Pre-party at the house, then hit the cantina for Cinco de Mayo happy hour. Hiphopmuse may be late for work tomorrow…

Here’s a margarita recipe for your pre-party. Or shit, your party party, cause we are in a recession. Invite your peeps over for a special Cinco de Mayo edition of Taco Tuesday!
(via RecipeZaar.com. Serves 1)
Ingredients
1 1/2 ounces tequila
1 ounce lime juice
3/4 ounce triple sec
5 ice cubes
lime wedge
coarse salt
Directions
1. Moisten rim of margarita glass or martini glass with fresh lime juice.
2. Hold glass inverted and sprinkle salt around the exterior of the glass, over the lime juice (this helps keep salt from getting in the drink).

4. Add ice cubes to a cocktail shaker, and top with tequila, lime juice, and triple sec.
5. Cover with lid and shake vigorously.
6. Pour into prepared glass and serve.
7. The 4 Mexican toasts while drinking (1 per round): Salud (health); Dinero (money); Amor (love); and Tiempo para enojarlos (time to enjoy them).
8. Salud!
