It’s interesting how people are using Twitter to share news about personal and private moments in their lives. YBF is reporting that Kimora Lee Simmons is in labor, and the news was released using Twitter. Kimora is giving birth to her third child with sexy chocolate actor-model Djimon Hounsou. There was a time when people were mum about private life events. These days social sharing tools allow individuals to put everything on blast instantaneously. Privacy is no more.
It’s possible to retain a sense of privacy because you have control on whether you want to share information. If Kimora and Djimon wanted to be tight-lipped about their lives they can control what is put out there about them, to a certain degree. They are famous so people are always looking to break news on them, but I’m referring to the information we put out there about ourselves. Have you seen people who Tweet and Facebook highly personal thoughts on their pages, as if they are compelled to share their innermost thoughts with the world? We as individuals control what we post so one has to stop, pause and think before hitting publish.
It’s wonderful that social media allows us to share worlds with one another. Social media brings a sense of community, making the world smaller than ever.
Congrats to Kimora and Djimon. I imagine their baby will be adorable, cause their both beautiful.
Ok, this is just weird. The Def Jam Rapstar video game is supposed to allow you to step in the shoes of a hip hop artist and be a rap star…but this just the same as singing karaoke for your friends or rapping in the mirror with a hairbrush in hand. If you need a visual of the music video, you can turn to BET or youtube that shit.
It’s very random to see Dre on a Dr. Pepper commercial. It is reported that the commercial contains a tiny sample of music from Dr. Dre’s yet-to-be released Detox album (dropping Nevruary 32, 3000, it seems).
Wellness is key to your success, but between career, family and social life, time for fitness is sometimes minimal. After running around all day, sometimes the last thing you want to do is exercise.
But exercise is exactly what you should do, to maintain your health and stay balanced. Here are some affordable, easy ways to integrate fitness into your daily life. Consistency is of the utmost importance to reaching a fitness goal. Don’t freak out if you fall off the wagon, just make sure you get back up and keep going.
1. Got cable? Tune into your cable provider’s fitness channel. I have Time Warner Cable, which carries FitTV. I set my DVR for the fitness shows I want, and do the workout when I have the time.
2. Integrate exercise into your workday. Bring a pair of running shoes to work and take a brisk, 20 minute walk during your lunch hour. Or when the afternoon slump sets in around 3 pm, lace up and hit the stairs in your office building.
3. Use the web. There are a bunch of sites out there containing content on health and fitness, all you have to do is google it to find it. My personal faves are MSN Fitness and Fitness Magazine. Both have great exercise routines, workout tips and healthy eating advice.
What do you do to keep fit and maintain your health?
Thin, brittle nails are NOT the business. Usually brittle nails are indicative of vitamin D and biotin deficiency, and are caused by moisture loss due to repeated handwashing or exposure to harsh cleaning agents.
Here are tips to treat dry, brittle nails.
1. Eat better. A healthy balanced diet will show itself in the form of healthy and strong hair skin and nails. Consume three servings of milk per day, drink plenty of water and try to eat as much fresh fruits, veggies, and nuts as possible. Be easy on the fried, fatty stuff.
2. Stay moisturized. Rub hands and nails with lotion after each hand wash. If possible, keep cuticle oil on hand and swipe it on your nails a few times throughout the day, but especially before bed. If you don’t have cuticle oil, good old fashioned petroleum jelly works fine.
3. Keep nail length on the short side. Avoid acrylic nails, which damage the nail bed and exacerbate dry, brittle nails.
Some friends and I are hitting up the UCLA Jazz Fest this Memorial Day weekend, and we want to bring food for a picnic as opposed to buying food at the venue. It’s more affordable and healthy, and also adds a personal, homemade feel to the outing. Unfortunately the venue is shady about concert-goers bringing coolers to the event, so we’re forced to come up with non-perishable food ideas for the picnic. If the “no cooler” rule wasn’t an issue, I would go all out.
The idea is to bring along food items that are easy to transport, and easy to eat. Finger foods are a good bet, anything that requires too much assembly is complicated and messy.
Notes for Food Consumption Outdoors
When preparing and eating food outdoors, remember to keep perishable items in a cooler.
Water may be at a premium, so keep antibacterial wipes handy
Bring plenty of ziploc bags and plastic wrap to store items with a propensity to leak
Don’t forget to double check and make sure you have utensils and condiments for your food!
What are some of your favorite picnic recipes? And does anyone have any tips on keeping food fresh without a cooler? I’m trying to circumvent the “no cooler” rule.
Memorial Day Weekend at that, so you got Monday off people! You know what that means. You can’t be sitting around idly talking about, “I’m gonna get my rest in this weekend.” Nah playa. Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial start to summer. And that means you gotta get that ass out and party!
If you happen to be in Los Angeles this weekend, here’s some events. I can’t guarantee I’ll be attending, but if you’re in town drop me a comment and let me know what you’re up to!
Friday 5/22 Falcon
Note: This event will be Hollywood so you have to dress accordingly. Expect things to be scene-y.

This is one of those losses I still haven’t gotten over, and it’s been 12 years since we lost Biggie. I don’t know if hop hop will ever get over it. Definitely a lost one.
I don’t want to ruminate too much over this loss, I’d rather celebrate the life of this great artist. Biggie Smalls made big dudes sexy. Sure, there was Heavy D, but Biggie was a “hearthrob never/black and ugly as ever.” His freshness was undeniable.
That’s some hood love right there. I’m sure you’ve heard by now that Jermaine Dupri went and inked himself in honor of his boo, Miss Janet Jackson. That ish looks like it hurt! I really hope their relationship is everlasting, because inking yourself is a permanent move. Most people I know who have gotten tattoos in honor of their significant others aren’t with the honoree anymore. Let’s hope JD and Damita Jo are an exception, they’re sweet together.
